Person closing a frameless car door in a tint bay

When the customer “helped” and closed the door

Composite bay story · Northern California coupe

The owner was on a call. The installer had the frameless door open, glass locked up, card in hand, working the top edge. Beautiful silence except the radio.

The customer walked back from the waiting area to “check on progress.” He saw the door hanging open. He did what polite people do in parking lots and living rooms: he closed it for you.

Not hard. Friendly. Fatal for unprotected raised glass.

Why this fuck-up keeps repeating

Customers do not know that locked-up glass on a frameless door is a loaded trap. They see an open door and think they are tidying up. Your verbal warning from twenty minutes ago does not live in their hands.

You can tape a sign. You can say “please don’t touch the doors.” Someone will still help.

What would have saved it

A spacer already seated between the glass edge and the trim. Then the polite close becomes a non-event — pressure into DoorDumb, not into tempered glass. You still brief the customer. You just stop betting the car on whether they listen.

Assume someone will close it. Protect the crush zone anyway.
