Stressed new tint installer beside a frameless door with glass raised

New hire, locked-up glass, empty crush zone

Composite training story · Sacramento shop

Kid could lay film. Clean hands. Watched the YouTube shrink videos. Day three on frameless, he raised the glass all the way — correct — and went straight to heat. Nobody had drilled the spacer step into muscle memory yet. The tool was on the cart. It never left the cart.

Lead tech closed the door behind himself walking to the plotter. Not malicious. Automatic. Bang. New hire went pale. Lead went quieter than the radio.

What training missed

They taught locked-up glass for quality. They forgot to teach that locked-up glass is also the danger state. Quality and risk show up as the same posture. Protection has to be a named step: seat DoorDumb, then shrink.

How they train it now

Checklist on the cart: Raise. Seat. Protect. Finish. New hires do not get a heat gun on frameless until the spacer is visibly in the gap. One fuck-up bought a rule.

Make the spacer as automatic as slip solution.
